Modern Mix Quilt Kit
The Modern Mix quilt is featured as the cover quilt for the June 2007 American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. We are honored to be the only quilt shop supplying these kits for the magazine.
Designed by Mabeth Oxenreider, the quilt features a stunning variety of Hoffman 1895 hand-dyed batiks. The fabrics are paired by color, and separated by value (each kit includes 32 dark batiks, and 32 light batiks in the same color). The design involves simple strip piecing, then dramatic prisms are assembled from the strip sets.
Kits include 64 fat quarters (neatly sorted into pairs)& fabric for the binding.
Skill Level: Intermediate
The instructions in the magazine include a pair of triangle templates (small & large). These templates are used to cut the triangles from the strip set. If you prefer to work with an acrylic ruler, rather than a template, consider the Omnigrid Right Triangle for 1/4 Square Ruler, available for an additional cost of $9.60 (regular price $12.00).
The standard kit is queen-sized (84 1/2" x 96 1/2"). If you prefer to make a king-sized quilt (94 1/2" x 106 1/2"), this option appears below. King-sized kits will include 8 extra fat quarters. At this time, we do not have crib or lap sized kits available.
If you have a color preference for your backing, please specify in the "comment box". Unless otherwise specified, we will choose an appropriate Hoffman 1895 hand-dyed batik.
A note regarding pricing... In the magazine, the price is listed as follows: "To order a fabric kit to re-create the quilt top shown opposite, send $155.00 ppd ($205.00 ppd with backing) to Dakota Cabin Quilts". This price includes fabric for a queen size kit & the cost of shipping.
Whether you order online, via phone, or simply send a check via mail, the price is the same. However, we are able to present various options online that we were not able to present in the magazine. These various options are shown below.
Depending upon the final dollar value in your cart, the website adds an "estimated shipping charge." As always, we then review your order prior to any credit card billing, and you are only charged the EXACT shipping cost. This will be $8.10 for the quilt kit, or the quilt kit with backing, but it may be slightly more if you order additional items. International customers are also responsible for exact shipping charges.
